Description

American film director and producer (1884-1949) known for films such as A Night at the Opera, A Day at the Races, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, and The Pride of the Yankees. TLS, one page, 5.5 x 8.5, Paramount Pictures letterhead, June 16, 1942. Letter to pioneering film producer Samuel Goldwyn, in full: "I have been away on location and am going again tonight for another four or five days. I have been concerned about Menzie's credit because I have a certain obligation to give him a full card with 'Production designed by William Cameron Menzies' on it. I may not have taken this up with you at the beginning of the picture. Rather than have Menzies disappointed, you may put him on half of my credit card." In fine condition, with two rusty paperclip impressions to the top edge. William Cameron Menzies was an American film production designer and art director whose career spanned five decades. He earned acclaim for his work in silent film and later pioneered the use of color in film for dramatic effect.
