Description

German-Jewish poet and author (1812-1882) known as the founder of the German 'tendency novel,' in which fiction is used as a means of influencing public opinion on social, political, moral, and religious questions. Untranslated AQS in German on an off-white 7.75 x 6.75 sheet, signed in black ink, "Berthold Auerbach, Dresden, 24 August 1857." Lower portion bears an AQS from German journalist and translator Wilhelm Wolfsohn. In fine condition, with light soiling and a trimmed top edge.
