Description

Uncommon souvenir typescript detailing Lunar Module Pilot Duke's perspective of the "Apollo 16 Launch," one page, 8.5 x 11, signed at the conclusion in black ink. In part: "T minus 60 seconds, The closer we got to lift-off, the faster my heart beat. T minus 30 second, My heart was really pounding now and my palms were sweating, like the big game was about to start. T minus 20 seconds…T minus 10 seconds, We were really going to go! Thump! The spacecraft shook as the huge thirty-inch valves opened to feed fuel into each of the five main engines. T minus 8 seconds, IGNITION! We have ignition! radioed the launch director…We heard a muffled roar from the huge engines below as they gulped down fuel at about 4500 gallons per second. As the engines built up thrust for lift off, I felt a tremendous vibration, and the spacecraft began to shake!…If anyone wonders what an astronaut is doing at lift-off, this astronaut was holding on! 4…3…2…1…LIFT-OFF!!" In fine condition.
