Dickens replies to an "amusing and curious book"

ALS, one page, 4.5 x 7, Gad's Hill Place letterhead, July 1, 1867. Letter to C. A. Wheeler, in part: "I beg you to accept my apologies for having omitted to send you until now, my subscription to your amusing and curious book. Absence and constant occupation have occasioned my correspondence to fall sadly in arrear." In fine condition, with a light stain to the upper left side. Accompanied by an engraved portrait bearing a facsimile signature, and an engraving of Gad's Hill.
