Wax box of 1964 O-Pee-Chee black-and-white “The Beatles” second series trading cards, containing 36 unopened wax packs of cards and bubble gum, each marked with a five-cent price. The blue box features black-and-white ‘floating head’ portraits of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, matching the designs on each of the yellow wax packs. These cards were printed in Canada by O-Pee-Chee under license with Topps Chewing Gum, and the rear panel of the box features a Bazooka bubble gum advertisement. In overall very good to fine condition, with expected wear and one split corner to the box.
Advertised as the "New Series," the second series of 1964 black-and-white Beatles cards featured a 55-card checklist that followed up an initial 60-card series. The cards feature black-and-white images of the Beatles, both individually and together, with candid shots and those taken during performances; the fronts feature facsimile signatures of the band members. A highly desirable wax box that represents the global popularity of the group at the height of Beatlemania.
