Sought-after 1874 ship's papers for Pacific whalers

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 22 x 17, June 30, 1874. Four-language ship's paper issued to "George W. Allen, master or commander of the Bark called Mears…lying at present in the port of New Bedford bound for Pacific Ocean and laden with Provisions, Stores and utensils for a whaling voyage." Crisply signed in the center by President Grant and countersigned by Secretary of State Hamilton Fish. The white paper seal affixed at the bottom remains mostly intact, with paper loss to points at the bottom. In very good to fine condition, with light toning, intersecting folds, and a strip of old mounting remnants along the reverse of the central vertical fold.
