American writer (1822-1908) who usually wrote under the pseudonym Ik Marvel, best known for his 1850 novel of rural life, Reveries of a Bachelor. Matte-finish 6.25 x 8.5 portrait of Mitchell affixed to its original 10 x 13 mount, boldly signed on the mount in black ink, "With best wishes, Don'd G. Mitchell, Edgewood: Mch 30, 1901." Also signed on the mount in pencil by the photographer and dated 1901. Matted to an overall size of 14 x 17. In fine condition.
