Description

Hoffman arrested in New York for "Fel Asslt—Police Officer"

New York Police Department criminal card issued for Abbie Hoffman, one page both sides, 6 x 4, arrest date of April 11, 1969, 'B' Number 746740. The front of the card bears an affixed glossy 1.5 x 2.25 mugshot photo of Hoffman, with adjacent field listing his age, date and place of birth, physical statistics, noted drug use (marked "No"), and distinctive marks, scars, and tattoos ("none"). Reverse of card consists of information relating to Hoffman and his arrest, which identifies the criminal specialty, "Fel Asslt," the crime charged, "Fel Asslt—Police Officer," the arresting officer's name, "Ptl Brian Mulheren," and the details of the case, "A/C in that the deft did assault a Police Officer while said officer was in performance of his duties." In very good condition, with overall creasing, a tack hole, and a short edge tear.

Patrolman Mulheren arrested Hoffman on April 11, 1969, in the lobby of 100 Center Street, New York City, when he refused to leave the lobby when ordered. Hoffman was subsequently charged with resisting arrest, harassment, disorderly conduct, and obstructing governmental administration. He was arraigned before a New York City judge and was released on $500 bail that very afternoon. A day earlier, Hoffman applied for a permit to use Chicago's Lincoln Park for a massive camp-in that would coincide with the federal court trial of Hoffman and seven others charged with conspiring to start riots during the 1968 Democratic National Convention.
