American science fiction, fantasy, and commercial artist (born 1953) who is best known for his creation of the 'Captain' character of the Captain Morgan brand of rum; he has also twice won the Hugo Award for Best Professional Artist, science fiction's highest honor for an artist. Excellent set of three original sketches by Don Maitz on individual white 8.5 x 11 heavy paperstock sheets, each containing a drawing of a classic pirate character, two of which are accomplished in graphite, and one in both graphite and ink; each sketch is signed below, "Maitz." In overall very fine condition.
