Collection of six one-of-a-kind original Sony digital audio tapes (DAT) of Prince’s concerts in Japan at the end of his Lovesexy World Tour in February 1989. These high-grade professional recordings were made directly from the sound console and are playable on any DAT machine; they have also been digitized as WAV files on a USB drive for ease of listening. The digitization was done strictly for this auction, and these tapes have not been otherwise reproduced, duplicated, or disseminated.
The following concerts are included, with the approximate length listed:
February 1, 1989, at the Sendai Gymnasium in Sendai, Japan (1:51)
February 4, 1989, at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan (1:43)
February 8, 1989, at the Rainbow Hall in Nagoya, Japan (1:58)
February 10, 1989, at the Kitakyushu City Gymnasium in Kitakyushu, Japan (1:46)
February 12, 1989, at the Osaka-jo Hall in Osaka, Japan (2:02)
February 13, 1989, at the Osaka-jo Hall in Osaka, Japan (0:49 — this recording ends at intermission)
For the most part, the set lists for these shows follow the same general formula, beginning with some of his earlier hits, ramping up into songs from the Lovesexy album, and finishing with an encore from Purple Rain. In addition to playing the guitar, piano, and singing, Prince is heard saying the names of the cities and asking everyone to "Cross the line—love God." These tapes perfectly capture the energetic vocals and instruments, and crowd noise is limited. Each tape is marked on the label with the date and location. In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance.
Note: No copyright, license, or any other rights in or to the music contained on these tapes is conveyed, implied, or claimed in connection with the sale of these tapes. This sale is of the tangible personal property constituted by the physical tapes themselves only, which RR is selling at auction on consignment from the legal owner thereof.
