Queen Isabella II

Queen of Spain (1830-1904) who came to the throne as an infant in 1833 and reigned until 1868 when she was deposed in the Glorious Revolution. LS in Spanish, signed “Isabel,” one page, 8.75 x 11, January 15, 1852. Letter to the vice president of Costa Rica, announcing the birth of her daughter, Princess Maria Isabel. In part (translated): "To the Vice President of the Republic of Costa Rica, My great and good friend: I have a great and happy satisfaction in telling you that on the 20th of the last month was born a Princess to whom the names of Mary Isabel, Francisca de Asis, Cristina, Francisca de Paula, was given…I am [also] pleased to reiterate my true friendship and esteem." In fine condition, with a bit of paper loss to the right edge. Princess Isabel, whose birth is announced in this official letter, was twice recognized as the heir presumptive to the Spanish throne and titled 'Princess of Asturias.' She married the Count of Girgenti, a son of King Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies, in 1868, and was the most popular member of the Spanish Royal family. She died in exile in France.
