French queen by marriage to Louis Philippe I and the granddaughter of Maria Theresa of the Austro-Hungarian and Holy Roman Empires (1782-1866). ALS in French, signed “Marie Amelie,” one page both sides, 5 x 7.5, August 15, 1844. In part (translated): "I thank you will all my heart, my dear chancellor, for the copy of the letter of Marie-Therese that you wanted to send me, as well as for the note concerning your poor protegee…I will do all that I can usefully do for your protegee." Marie Amelie references her grandmother twice in this short note, once formally as “Marie-Therese” and once more familiarly as “grand-mere.” In fine condition, with writing showing through from opposing sides.
