Letter to Lord Keith concerning the loss of his flagship the HMS Queen Charlotte, in part: "Many thanks my dear Lord Keith for your kind letter…Thank God you were not aboard the Royal Charlotte, then indeed it would have been a great calamity & though at a distance, I may venture to say that there is no one of all your friends who would have felt it more severely than myself. I trust this Letter to the care of the son of an old friend of mine, & one of the most respectable men in the whole world, a Mr. Smith, Son to Sir William Smith who is Colonel…therefore any attentions…you can shew this young man, I am sure you will."
