Buddy Holly recorded the classic ‘Peggy Sue’ at Norman Petty’s studio in Clovis, New Mexico, on June 29 and July 1, 1957. Capitalizing on Holly’s summer success with ‘That'll Be the Day,’ Coral released the single on September 20, 1957, with the song ‘Everyday’ on the B-side. ’Peggy Sue’ immediately leapt up the charts, catapulting to number three on Billboard’s pop charts in October. One of Holly’s masterpieces, ‘Peggy Sue’ ranked 194 on Rolling Stone’s list of the ‘500 Greatest Songs of All Time,’ and was included by NPR on their list of the ‘100 Most Important American Musical Works of the 20th Century.’ The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. A truly remarkable document preceding the release of an incredibly influential song.
