Signed book: An American Prayer. Published by James Douglas Morrison in 1970. Faux red leather paper boards with gilt lettering, 4 x 4.75, 40 pages. Signed and inscribed on the title page in black felt tip, "To Pam, J. Morrison." In fine condition, with trivial toning to first free end page, and a ding to upper right corner of front paper board. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from REAL, as well as the original mailing envelope, postmarked Los Angeles, November 4, 1970, and addressed by an unknown hand. Printed by Western Lithographers of Los Angeles in the summer of 1970, Morrison self-published a total of 500 copies of this rare book, purportedly divvying them amongst his family and close friends. This terrifically scarce signed edition features lyrics to Morrison's poem 'An American Prayer,' the eventual title track for The Doors' ninth and final studio album, and represents Morrison’s unique and visceral style of poetry.
