"Let me express my personal appreciation for your fine service on behalf of the United States as our ambassador to Austria"

ALS signed “Jerry Ford,” one page, 6 x 8.25, personal letterhead, August 17, 1977. Letter to Ambassador John P. Humes, in part: "Jamie delivered your thoughtful note with the two fine coins. Betty and I are most grateful for your kindness. Let me express my personal appreciation for your fine service on behalf of the United States as our ambassador to Austria. It is a wonderful country as Betty & I know from a visit in 1956 and our trip in 1975." Includes the original envelope addressed in Ford's hand (bearing a pre-printed free frank), matted and framed together to an overall size of 11 x 18. In fine condition, with some small light stains along the right edge and soiling to the envelope. Ford had left the presidency only eight months earlier, retiring to his residence at Rancho Mirage, California.
