Description

"Oddly I never viewed the Nixon memo as some kind of threat or pressure play"

ALS, one page, 6.25 x 4.25, personal letterhead, February 6, 1995. Letter to his biographer Herbert Parmet, in full: "Thanks for both your good letter and Kalb's book. I'll read it. Oddly I never viewed the Nixon memo as some kind of threat or pressure play." In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Bush refers to Marvin Kalb's book The Nixon Memo: Political Respectability, Russia, and the Press, which covered the memo issued by former President Nixon that criticized the Bush administration's lack of support for the fledgling Yeltsin government in Russia. Nixon's memo came at a politically inopportune moment for President Bush, who was then engaged in a campaign for his party's presidential nomination.
