Description

Handwritten notes with arithmetic and a "chain" sketch, four years after winning the Nobel Prize

Unsigned handwritten notes by Francis Crick, four pages on three sheets, 6.75 x 9, no date but circa 1966, from Crick’s nautical logbook used onboard his Bertram powerboat named the Eye of Heaven. Two pages consist of numbers and arithmetic related to fuel usage, and the third sheet contains notes about the engine on the front, and a diagram of a chain on the back: the first page has fractions under the headings "Fast" and "Slow"; the second page, headed "Fuel etc.," is marked "Italy" and "Greece," and lists liters of fuel used during trips around each nation; the third, headed "Engines," has notes related to "vibration on rt. shaft," "alternator," "aux petrol pump," "propellor," and various maintenance and repair tasks, with the reverse featuring a sketch of a "stainless chain." In overall fine condition, with scattered light stains. These notes date to just four years after Crick received the Nobel Prize for his discovery of DNA.
