Description

Prince's gift of 'Diamonds and Pearls'

Prince's personally-owned and stage -worn jewelry necklace worn during the 1984-1985 Purple Rain Tour, measuring 37″ long unclasped, featuring groups of faux pearls separated by thin rings of 'diamonds,' with occasional larger clear spherical 'disco ball' beads. The clasp is in the form of a "YSL" [Yves Saint Laurent] logo, presumed to be a replica. In fine condition. From the collection of singer-songwriter Susannah Melvoin, an extended member of the Revolution during the Parade era, who shared a longterm working musical relationship with and was engaged to Prince during the 80s. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Susannah Melvoin. Among the accessories on his backstage dressing room, Prince later presented this dazzling necklace to Melvoin to wear as part of her performance outfit. A desirable example of jewelry embodying the 'Diamonds and Pearls' that would become Prince's thirteenth studio album—and chart-topping hit—in 1991.

Listen to Susannah Melvoin discuss this jewelry in her interview on the Rare and Remarkable! Podcast.
