Rare handwritten note signed "P" [in the form of his symbol], inside a 7.75 x 3.75 card depicting Prince with a sunflower, written to his fiancée Susannah Melvoin, in full: "This is my 1st ballet…a few passages are still missing but I'm almost done. I love u. Please write." Includes the original transmittal envelope addressed in Prince's hand to "Susannah." In fine condition, with mild scattered creasing. From the collection of singer-songwriter Susannah Melvoin, an extended member of the Revolution during the Parade era, who shared a longterm working musical relationship with and was engaged to Prince during the 80s. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Susannah Melvoin.
Although the mention of Prince’s “1st ballet” remains a mystery, the consignor affirms that Prince likewise wrote this note to Susannah to get her opinion on his ballet because of their shared love of dance. The couple's ballet connection dates to Susannah teaching Prince his first pirouette as they were walking down Melrose Avenue while recording the soundtrack to Purple Rain.
