French painter and sculptor (1901-1985) known for founding the 'Art Brut' movement. TLS in French, one page, 5.25 x 8.25, March 20, [no year]. Letter to Anatole Jakovsky, in part: "I would first like to give you back the book on the art of the madmen—if it was only that I would pass it to your concierge with my bike—but I would be glad that it was an opportunity to meet again." In fine condition. Accompanied by an envelope addressed to "Monsieur Anatole Jakovsky" in Dubuffet's hand (postmarked November 20th). An especially interesting letter as Dubuffet was known to be fascinated by the art of the people in asylums, and drew inspiration from them in the 'Art Brut' movement.
