Description

Given to Ringo at the 2008 World Music Awards

A Ringo Starr WMA Diamond Award trophy used in the production of the 2008 World Music Awards, measuring 12.75″ tall, weighing 2.7 pounds, with an engraved plaque on the base, "Ringo Starr, Diamond Award, The World Music Awards, Monte-Carlo, 9th November 2008." The silver-colored statuette is holding faceted 'diamond' crystal, which is detached but secured by a putty. The bottom bears an R. S. Owens label. In very good to fine condition, with the glass piece detached and some toned adhesive on the statuette's hands and arms. The consignor obtained this from a producer and director of the 2008 World Music Awards, who received it from the executive producers of Marcor International, which runs the World Music Awards; accompanied by a letter of provenance from the director, his personal pre-production scripts and schedules, and a photo of Ringo with the award. This is the example that was given to Ringo on stage, but he was sent a new one due to the detached diamond. Starr sold his personal copy of the award in the Julien's sale of property from the collection of Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach. Only seven groups/artists have received the esteemed WMA Diamond Award, which was established to honor artists who have sold over 100 million records: Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, and The Beatles.
