Description

Support for a Jewish chemistry professor who fled Nazi Germany

TLS in German, signed “A. Einstein,” one page, 8.5 x 11, August 22, 1940. Letter to Dr. S. B. Bamberger, in full (translated): "Your claim that teacher agencies do not register foreigners is not true in general. I often receive queries from such agencies about emigrants on whose qualifications I am sufficiently informed. So ask at such agencies and name me as a reference. Also, I urgently advise you to ask President Bernard Revel, of Yeshiva College (Amsterdam Ave. and 186th St.) for advice and support. I am enclosing a letter to him, which you would best send to him along with an interview request." In fine condition. Bamberger, the grandson of noted Talmudist and Orthodox leader Rabbi Seligman Baer Bamberger, successfully became a professor of chemistry at Yeshiva University after emigrating to America.
