Pioneer executive (1878-1961) who played a key role in the development of the United States film industry. After receiving a presidential pardon for income tax evasion, he played a key role in launching Marilyn Monroe's career. He was also one of the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and in 1952 he was given a special Academy Award in recognition of his important contribution to the development of the industry.
