Description

Towering vintage Saturn V rocket

Tremendous vintage model of a full Saturn V rocket created by the Graphic Engineering and Model Studies Branch at the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center, used by NASA as part of an outreach program during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The impressive, fully collapsible model measures approximately 47″ tall and features the rocket's first three stages and the uppermost payload section. The capsule is set upon an 8.25 x .5 x 8.25 wooden base with affixed plate, and includes its original blue wooden 27 x 9.75 x 13.75 storage box. The front of the box features a "Saturn V, No. 262" sticker, as well as Airborne and NASA shipping labels; the carrying handle bears the original green tag. In very good to fine condition, with expected wear from use and storage, including: light scuffing and soiling to exterior; some wear to paint on lunar module; heaviest wear and damage to command and service module, with engine propulsion nozzle cracked and only a few pieces still present; fin B on rocket also no longer present. In spite of its flaws, this prodigious Saturn V model remains a truly remarkable extension to the halcyon days of space travel and education.
