American journalist (1820-1869) and cofounder of The New York Times; he served as a member of the New York State Assembly in 1850 and 1851, and is often referred to as 'the godfather of the Republican Party.' ALS signed “H. J. Raymond,” one page, lightly lined, 5.25 x 8.25, December 13, 1861. Letter to L. B. Wyman, in full: "It will give me great pleasure to attend the dinner of the New England Society on the 23rd in accordance with your invitation." In fine condition, with intersecting folds and a slightly rough left edge.
