British naval officer and novelist (1792-1848) who, after a life at sea, including commanding the Ariadne, retired and wrote novels based on his experiences; his best-known work is The Children of the New Forest. ALS signed “F. Marryat,” one page, 4.5 x 7.25, no date. In full: "I have just received your note inclosed by Mr. Sherman. I shall have great pleasure in dining with you on Saturday next." In fine condition, with light toning to the top.
