Vellum manuscript DS, signed “Fairfax,” one page, 10 x 7, December 22, 1645. A military appointment issued during the English Civil War, in part: "Sir Thomas Fairfax…Commander in Chiefe of all yr forces…for the defence of the Kingdome…By the authority of the aforesaid ordinance…I hereby…appoint you Capt. of that foote company." Matted and framed with an unsigned engraving to an overall size of 20.5 x 11.5; the backing bears an affixed Goodspeed's Book Shop label. In very good condition, with moderate intersecting folds.
