Description

Third chief justice of the United States (1745-1807) and delegate to the Constitutional Congress who later submitted the amendments which became the Bill of Rights. Manuscript DS, signed “Oliv: Ellsworth,” one page, 7.25 x 5, February 3, 1784. Pay order issued to Treasurer John Lawrence of Connecticut, in part: "Please to pay Charles Chauncey Two Pounds Lawful Money out of the Two pence Tax granted by the General Assembly in May last for depaying the incident Charges of Government." Signed at the conclusion by Ellsworth, and endorsed across his signature by Revolutionary War General Jedediah Huntington. In fine condition.
