President Pierce appoints George Bell as "First Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Artillery in the service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by both Pierce and Jefferson. White War Office seal remains affixed to upper left. In very good condition, with areas of light toning, and small holes of insect damage, primarily to the top half of the document and upper left edge.
