ALS signed “Oliv. Wolcott,” one page both sides, 8.25 x 10, March 23, 1811. Letter to Joseph Hopkinson, in part: "I rec'd your favour of the 20th and visited Mr. Astor to whom I made a speech, which I dare not commit to writing, for par of wounding your delicacy:—with much satisfaction, not wholly unmixed with vanity, I can now inform you that this gentleman has very handsomely consented to have the Picture copied at his House. I might have obtained it, to be sent to Philadelphia, but for an objection, which it was impossible for me to obviate. It seems that Cupid is much admired by the Ladies of New York, several of whom have requested that his Godship may be permitted to visit their apartments, for the purpose of being copied." Includes the detached integral page addressed in Wolcott's own hand. In very good to fine condition, with splitting along intersecting folds.
