British naval administrator and explorer (1764–1848) who mapped the interior of South Africa and promoted the exploration of the Arctic. LS signed “Jno. Barrow,” one page both sides, 7.75 x 12.5, October 1, 1835. Letter to Rear Admiral Sir Graham Hammond, in part: "Having laid before my Lord Commissioners of the Admiralty your letter…with its enclosure from Commodore Mason, stating that he had entered as Clerk…William Harris…I am commanded by their Lordships to acquaint you that this entry cannot be sanctioned, and that they have appointed Mr. E. D. Bach, Additional Clerk." In fine condition, with a short split along the central horizontal fold.
