Description

Jerome Kern

Two items signed by Kern, including a TLS and a sheet music cover:

TLS signed "Jerry," one page, 5 x 7.75, personal letterhead, June 4, 1936. Letter to Peggy, in part: "I'm puzzled by what the hell can be restraining those Spewacks from getting something down on paper. To my knowledge, they've been improvising their play since February and heaven knows how long before. Wouldn't you think by this time that they had gabbed themselves out? This is not meant unkindly, but I bear in mind that convincing play-talker, Eddie Goulding, who expatiates orally for a couple of years and then, when a convulsion of nature, or a desperate studio, forces him to get his yarn on paper, most of it has been long since forgotten, and much of the quality, alas, has evaporated." Double-matted and framed with an image of Kern to an overall size 16 x 14. In fine condition.

Vintage sheet music cover for 'Music in the Air,' 8.5 x 11, listing book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, 2nd, and music by Jerome Kern, published by the T. B. Harms Company of New York. Signed and inscribed in black ink, "To Kathleen, with affectionate regards, from Jerome Kern." Double-matted and framed with an image of the composer to an overall size of 14.25 x 22.5. In fine condition, with a crease directly beneath the signature.
