Partly-printed DS, signed "Edward RI," three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8 x 13, [September 16, 1936]. King Edward grants Martin Willoughby Parr the "licence to wear the Insignia of the Third Class of the Order of the Nile." The black seal affixed at the top remains fully intact. Double-matted and framed beside a portrait such that only the front is visible to an overall size of 23.5 x 19.5. In fine condition. Parr, the governor of the Upper Nile Province of the Sudan, had been awarded the Third Class of the Order of the Nile by the king of Egypt, and royal permission was required for the wearing of foreign decorations in England. As Edward VIII reigned only from January 20–December 11, 1936, any document signed as king is extremely scarce. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
