Teacher and humanitarian (1821-1912) best known for organizing the relief organization the American Red Cross. Exceptional 4.25 x 6.5 gilt-edged cabinet photo of Barton in a head-and-shoulders pose and wearing a Red Cross collar pin, boldly signed at the bottom of the image in black ink. Published by Mathew Brady of Washington, D.C. Cloth-matted and framed to an overall size of 12 x 14.75. In fine condition. A simply stunning portrait of this influential figure.
