Description

"When I was 14, I did eat broccoli"

TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, April 10, 1990. Letter to Miss Margaret Hupt, in part: "Thank you for your note and the 'ban broccoli' button. I have to tell you, though, that when I was 14, I did eat broccoli. Although I didn't like it, my brothers and sister and I always ate what my Mother served at meals. I think that's as it should be…Take care, study hard, and eat well!" In fine condition, with blue ink mark striking through an erroneous "s." In March 1990, the US News and World Report reported on the broccoli ban that Bush imposed on Air Force One—he is remembered for proclaiming, ‘I haven't liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it. And I'm President of the United States, and I'm not going to eat any more broccoli!’ Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
