Jacques Necker

French statesman of Swiss birth (1732–1804) and finance minister of Louis XVI, a post he held in the lead-up to the French Revolution in 1789. Untranslated LS in French, signed “Necker,” one page, 6 x 7.75, July 17, 1789. Written only a month before Necker's second dismissal as director-general of finances, which was the immediate cause of the storming of Bastille, a letter to Monsieur De La Missiere, in which he arranges for a meeting to be held at his correspondent's house to discuss definitive actions to be taken over the Deputies from the district of Montagne. Matted and framed and in fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
