Handwritten and signed draft in pencil of lyrics for 'The Screams of Passion' entirely in Prince's hand, one page, 8 x 10.5, circa 1984. The page is headed "The Screams of Passion, by Prince." In part: "There's a gentle autumn breeze that / blows whenever we be lyin' in my bed / The moon appears and disappears / You look at me my clothes I quickly shed...Is it Sunday? Or is it passion / Help me / Do u want my passion / If u want my love, If u want my body baby." In very good to fine condition, with a small bit of blue tape to top edge obscuring portion of song title, light scattered creasing, bottom right corner folded forwards, and show-through from a few lines of writing on reverse. From the collection of Prince’s assistant tour manager Gwen Leeds, who notes that Prince would frequently hand write song lyrics in a notebook and then ask that they be typed and supplied to his record company for registering and licensing. This was released as the first single off of the 1985 album The Family, thus becoming the first song credited to the band. It was also the first Prince-related track to feature a string orchestration by Clare Fischer, who would become a frequent collaborator throughout Prince's career. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Gwen Leeds. Pre-certified REAL.
