Handwritten draft of lyrics for 'Miss Understood' entirely in Prince's hand, one page, 8 x 10.5, circa 1984. The page is headed "'Miss Understood,' by Susannah," referring to Susannah Melvoin. In part: "Now that I'm a woman, / I'm always dreamin of romance / I always dreamin about that perfect man / Who would take me in his arms and understand, understand me. / Chorus. / My name is Miss Understood / I'm just a girl who wants true love like any one would / I'm Miss Understood." Prince has made numerous corrections and changes throughout the draft. In fine condition, with strip of masking tape to top edge obscuring song title and haloing to the felt tip writing. From the collection of Prince's assistant tour manager Gwen Leeds and accompanied by a letter of provenance. Leeds notes that Prince would frequently hand write song lyrics in a notebook and then ask that they be typed and supplied to his record company for registering and licensing. This song was originally recorded by Prince and Susannah Melvoin for the 1985 Prince-produced album The Family, but was ultimately not included on the final album.
