Charles Cornwallis

English general (1738–1805) who fought against Washington during the American Revolution and was finally defeated at Yorktown. Free frank panel, 4.25 x 2.75, dated October 10, 1802, addressed in Cornwallis’s hand to “William Worth…St. George’s East Spire Island, London,” and franked in the lower left, “Free, Cornwallis.” Matted with an engraving of Cornwallis to an overall size of 9 x 12. In fine condition, with scattered light soiling. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
