Polk’s final day as president

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 14.5 x 18, March 3, 1849. President Polk confers First Lieutenant William E. Prince of the Army of the United States “the rank of Captain by Brevet.” Signed at the conclusion by Polk, and countersigned by Secretary of War William L. Marcy. White paper seal affixed to upper left remains intact with a few missing points. In fine condition, with moderate intersecting folds. A unique example given that Polk signed this document on the final day of his presidency. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
