Edwin Forrest

Nineteenth-century American Shakespearean actor (1806–1872) whose feud with British actor William Charles Macready caused the deadly Astor Place Riot of 1849. Uncommon ALS, one page, 6.75 x 5.5, June 28, 1842. Letter to Lewis J. Cist, in full: “I request to say that I cannot furnish you with the autograph of Mr. Sinclair.” In very good to fine condition, with light overall soiling. Accompanied by the original wax-sealed mailing envelope, addressed in Forrest’s own hand. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
