Book condition: G/None, with front board detached, edges and joints rubbed, and cracked rear hinge. Accompanied by a custom-made half morocco clamshell case. Provenance: James Madison–James Madison Cutts–The Victor and Irene Jacobs Collection, Sotheby’s, 1996; The Charles E. Sigety Collection, Christie’s, 2015. James Madison Cutts, Jr., who graduated from Brown in 1856 and went on to earn a Medal of Honor for his gallantry during the Civil War, was the grand-nephew of James and Dolley Madison.
