Description

The Doors sit with Guy Webster in 1966

Highly appealing set of photographic material by Guy Webster, deriving from a photo session with The Doors in 1966, including: four identical 2 x 2 color slides of the band in an upward angle pose, with one slide annotated in blue ink, “1966/1999, Guy Webster”; an original Kodak 3.75 x 4.75 color negative of the band, depicting a large portrait of Jim Morrison layered over the other three members; a series of six satin-finish photos, four of which are 11 x 14 portraits of each band member, with the remaining two 14 x 11 full band pictures (five of the pictures are annotated on the reverse in blue ink, “1966/1999, Guy Webster”). In overall fine condition. Webster is considered an early innovator of rock-and-roll photography, and is famous for capturing a variety of legendary acts at the peak of their creative energies, including The Rolling Stones, The Mamas and the Papas, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, Simon and Garfunkel, and Chicago. His most famous photo, however, is probably the classic image of Jim Morrison with his hand outstretched toward the camera. An uncommon, highly displayable selection of photographs taken at the start of The Doors’ most iconic period.
