Prolific Austrian-born American film composer (1888–1971) who won three Academy Awards from a total of 26 nominations. Among his best-known scores are those for King Kong, Gone With the Wind, and Casablanca. Scarce vintage sepia matte-finish 7.75 x 9.75 studio portrait of Steiner, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To my favorite recorder, Paul Neal! affectionately, Max Steiner, Xmas 1937.” In fine condition, with tape remnants to each corner tip. Constantly creating, Steiner composed scores for eleven films in 1937, including titles like Lost Horizon and A Star Is Born. Steiner remains uncommon across all signed formats, with this example only being the third photo we have encountered. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
