Highly appealing carte-de-visite bust-length portrait of the revered Union general, signed in black ink, “U. S. Grant, Lt. Gen. U. S. A.” Published by J. E. McClees of Philadelphia. Encapsulated in a plastic PSA/DNA authentication holder. In fine condition. Grant was promoted to lieutenant general and given command of all Union Armies on March 9, 1864, so this carte-de-visite would have been signed sometime between this 1864 promotion and Grant’s entry into the White House in 1869.
