American actress (1913–1970) whose promising career was cut short by alcoholism; during what should have been the prime of her career, she spent several years in mental institutions before attempting an acting comeback in the late 1950s. Tender circa 1942 glossy 8 x 10 Paramount Pictures publicity portrait of Farmer, signed in black ink, “best wishes, Frances Farmer.” In very good condition, with binder dings to right edge and scattered creases and surface marks. Dated 1942, this photo was signed during the period Farmer’s family involuntarily had her committed to the Kimball Sanitarium in La Crescenta. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
