Description

Rarely seen oversized portrait of the scandalous silent screen star

Popular silent-era actress (1892–1930) who, after a colorful career that included a number of scandals, died of tuberculosis at age 37. Gorgeous vintage matte-finish 10 x 13 portrait of Normand in profile by Mishkin of New York, boldly signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Mr. W. Ward Marsh, with my sincere appreciation, Mabel Normand, 1924.” In fine condition, with slightly trimmed edges. In 1924, Normand's chauffeur Joe Kelly shot and wounded millionaire oil broker and amateur golfer Courtland S. Dines with Normand’s pistol. Similar to the murder of William Desmond Taylor two years earlier, Normand was never considered a suspect. A simply beautiful image with an immaculate signature. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
