Mexican leader (1780–1853) who served as president of the nation on three separate occasions. Partly-printed DS in Spanish, signed “Anasto. Bustamante,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.5 x 12, May 26, 1840. Untranslated document as president of Mexico, granting retirement from the military after thirty years of service. Signed at the conclusion by Bustamante and subsequently endorsed by several others, including Juan Nepomuceno Almonte and Vicente Filisola. Retains the fully intact white paper ‘petal’ seal to lower left. In fine condition. Almonte, a Mexican official and diplomat, was a veteran of the Texas Revolution who participated in the Battle of the Alamo; Filisola was famous for commanding the Mexican army during the revolution in 1836, and later led a division in the Mexican-American War.
