Description

Felix Weingartner

ALS in French, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.5 x 8.75, October 22, 1904. Letter to a friend and fellow composer, probably Vincent d'Indy, including five musical notations within the text. In part (translated): " I'll be conducting your Symphonie...The score calls for a trumpet...Berlioz writes of a high E flat trumpet constructed by Sax. Is that your instrument? In any case such a trumpet is unknown in Germany. Could a Paris manufacturer lend it to me for Munich and Berlin?...Could you arrange this soon, because I don't know where to find that small trumpet in Paris...the trumpeter should study it at least 2 weeks before the concert...Will I have the pleasure of seeing you in Munich or Berlin?" In a postscript, he adds, "Such an extremely high note on a trumpet seems almost impossible to me." In fine condition, with writing showing through from opposing sides. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
